Dubai’s two climates are hot and very hot, with October to March being the best time to visit. Days in this period have pleasant temperatures although nights can turn a little chilly. Sun bakers line Dubai’s beaches, the most popular of which are Jumeira and Jabal Ali. Most parks and beaches have strictly women and children days, so check with your hotel before heading down to Jumeira on Saturdays or Al Mamzar on Wednesdays, when women, girls and young boys are the only ones who’ll be allowed to build sand castles. For women and girls, swimwear, including bikinis, is perfectly acceptable pool or beachside.
Other exciting exploration options are on a desert safari. Discover seemingly endless sand dunes, secret canyons, terraced mountainsides, little known markets and mosques, hidden waterfalls, desert oasis towns and Bedouin villages from the back of a bouncing jeep or if you’re really up for something different - try sand skiing.
If that sounds too hot to handle, take to the delicious waters of the Persian Gulf. Visitors can don snorkeling equipment and come face to face with sting rays or shipwrecks. If you’d prefer to keep your toes above the waves, take a cruise (operators are listed on the Time Out Dubai web site) . If you fancy going a bit further, a round trip flight to see the pyramids from Dubai is quite reasonably priced.
